Ulucanlar Prison Museum
Overview
Ulucanlar Prison, which was closed in 2006 and transferred to Altındağ Municipality in 2009, opened its doors to visitors again with a new identity on June 15, 2011. This historical prison, which witnessed executions and prisoner rebellions for 81 years, hosted important figures of Turkish political and literary life. However, now its corridors are brimming with culture, art and new hope. With the efforts of Altındağ Municipality, Ulucanlar Prison came to life as a museum and culture and arts center. By not allowing the demolition of the prison, Altındağ Municipality broke new ground in Turkey and brought an important work to Ankara.
