Tombs of Orhan Gazi
Overview
Sultan Orhan lived between 1281 and 1362 as the second sultan of the Ottoman Empire. He captured Bursa and its surroundings from the Byzantines and minted Ottoman currency. Orhangazi Tomb was built on a part of the Sainte Elie Monastery. The interior walls of the square-planned tomb are whitewashed and there are three windows on each side. The sarcophagus belonging to Orhangazi is located in the middle of the tomb, surrounded by brass railings. A cover embroidered with silver glitter on velvet fabric covering the top of the sarcophagus, Hz. It contains the hadith of Muhammad. Inside the tomb are the sarcophagi of Orhangazi's wife, Nilüfer Hatun, her children and relatives.
