Teos Ancient City
Overview
The ancient city of Teos is an ancient city located within the borders of Seferihisar district of Izmir. Founded in the Ionian region during the period of Ancient Greece, Teos dates back to the 8th century BC. The city is known as a rich cultural and commercial center and is considered an important center of the cult of Dionysus.
Teos has been occupied by many different civilizations and therefore varies in its architectural style. Among the important structures in the city are the ancient theatre, agora, bath, stoa, odeon and Apollon Delphinios temple.
The most famous historical figure of Teos is the famous thinker Anaximenes. In addition, philosophers, poets and scientists from Teos were also trained in history. The city is a popular tourist destination today, and archaeological excavations are ongoing.
