Rumeli Fortress
Overview
The fort, which was started to be built in March 1452 by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in order to control the ships passing through the Bosphorus, was completed in August of the same year. It is mentioned in the sources that 300 masters, 700-800 workers, 200 coachmen, boatmen and transporters worked during its construction. Hisar, which lost its importance after the conquest, XVI. It has been used as a state prison since the 19th century. It was destroyed in the fire in 1746 and Sultan III. It was repaired during the reign of Selim (1789-1807). The building, which was later abandoned to its fate, underwent extensive restoration work in 1953, during the 500th anniversary of the conquest.
