Kanuni Caravanserai
Overview
Kanuni Caravanserai is a historical building located in Çeşme district of İzmir. The caravanserai, which sets an example for Ottoman period architecture, was built in 1528 by Suleiman the Magnificent. The caravanserai has two floors and a rectangular plan. While there are barns, warehouses and shops on the lower floor, there are rooms used for accommodation on the upper floor. Caravanserai, located in a large courtyard, has typical Ottoman architecture and attracts attention with its stonework.
