Kadifekale
Overview
Kadifekale, which was established in a position overlooking the center of Izmir, dates back to B.C. It was built by Lysimachos, one of his generals, on the orders of Alexander the Great in the 3rd century. Kadifekale, located 186 meters above sea level, spreads over an area of 6 square kilometers. The castle is an impressive structure where the east and south walls have been completely destroyed, but the north and east walls and five towers are still standing. The height of the towers varies between 20-35 meters. Inside the castle, there are also ruins of a large arched cistern and a masjid from the Byzantine Period.
