Haci Bayram Veli Mosque
Overview
Hacı Bayram Veli Mosque is located on Bayram Street in Augustus Square. This sacred place is a building with a stone base, brick walls and tile roof. The rectangular planned mosque rests on the wall of the Temple of Augustus on the east side and the Tomb of Hacıbayram Veli in the south. The last congregation area, which covers more than half of the harem, was added later. The minaret has a square stone base, a cylindrical brick body and two balconies; It rises on the southeastern wall of the tomb.
On the outside, the lower windows are surrounded by pointed-arched stone niches, and the upper windows have pointed brick arches. There are additional rows of rectangular intermediate windows in the narthex. On the south-facing protruding wall of the wall in this area, there is the phrase 'Kelime-i Tevhid' written in oil paint similar to a green glazed brick.
The harem has a single nave and attracts attention with its casing workmanship. The building has a wooden ceiling and there is a wooden women's gallery in the north. The ceiling is surrounded by a molding decorated with various floral patterns. The walls are covered with tiles up to the windows. There are Kütahya tiles from the 18th century under the muezzin's gallery.
The mihrab with a muqarnas niche was made using the molding technique and was subsequently painted. Its top has a crenelated design with palmette leaves. "Kelime-i Tevhid" is repeated in abrogated script on various borders. The painted pulpit on wood was carefully made using the imitation kundekari technique.
The mosque contains all the embroideries painted on wood made by Nakkaş Mustafa. The mosque, which was repaired in 1714 by Mehmet Baba, one of the grandchildren of Hacı Bayram-ı Veli, has been built since the end of the 17th century with its ceiling, mihrab-pulpit decoration, tile details and ceiling structure. It bears the unique character of Ankara mosques dating back to the beginning of the 18th century. The repair inscription also reflects this historical richness. Hacı Bayram Veli Mosque, one of the most important mosques in Ankara, has great importance with its historical and architectural features.
