Ulu Mosque
Overview
Built by Yıldırım Bayezid between 1396 and 1400, Bursa Ulu Mosque is a multi-domed monumental structure that stands out among Ottoman mosques. It attracts attention with its twenty domes and two minarets resting on twelve large four-cornered piers. The mosque was built after Yıldırım Bayezid's victory at Nicopolis in 1396, and Somuncu Baba led its first prayer. It has undergone many repairs after being damaged in the 1855 earthquake.
A special feature of the mosque is the Kaaba cover brought by Yavuz Sultan Selim; Today, its verses are visible under bright light. The mihrab was completed in 1751 and has an eye-catching appearance with its eight rows of stalactites and hourglass-shaped columns. Pulpit, Antepli Hacı Mehmet b. It is the work of Abdülaziz el Dukki and bears the influence of kundekari art. The muezzin's gallery was built in 1549, and the stone lectern was built in 1815. The mosque has three gates in the east, west and north directions, and the crown gate is decorated with stalactites arranged in eleven rows.
