Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center
Overview
Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center is the embodiment of a long-term vision of art. Aziz Kocaoğlu embraced this dream, which was started by the late Ahmet Piriştina, with the same enthusiasm and built an art center with perhaps the best concert hall not only in the city but also in Turkey. The author of the project, architect Tevfik Tozkoparan, has succeeded in transforming the trolleybus garage and maintenance workshop of a time that is now remembered into a center for artistic activities. Moreover, while doing this, instead of the building as a purely architectural element, it brought features suitable for the lifestyles of the people of Izmir. AASSM stands out with its large galleries that will host plastic arts and contemporary art, as well as the concert hall, which was realized with a meticulous acoustic project. The fact that the leading magnificent works of plastic arts in Turkey from 1950 to the present day from the Istanbul Museum of Modern Arts are exhibited as the opening exhibition gives clues about the future projection of the institution.
